A column that appeared last week by Miranda Devine peaked our interest, mainly because we already wrote extensively about this subject twice, back in September and October. That aside, Devine was right on the money.
Two more incidents in the space of a week confirmed the reign of Roz Ward’s best mate Daniel Andrews to be the longest running farce in Australia.
A tradesman heroically prevented this man from blowing up a service station in Melbourne’s west by dousing him with a fire extinguisher. Victoria Police response? Three Police stations later and he was told “too busy mate, short staffed.” And on top of that, Police allegedly won’t investigate because “no damage was done” even though there is CCTV footage and it’s textbook attempted arson, attempted murder, etc, you name it. In other words, “someone has to die before we care.” It’s also not that hard a stretch for a terrorist act.
Plot twist – the tradie gets charged for assault. (not too far from reality)
Just to top that off, a woman on her way home from work was slashed repeatedly with a Stanley Knife and nearly died in a robbery in North Melbourne for the ‘prize’ of her bike and phone. So much for “calling the Police” hey, authoritarians?
So, we left a little comment on ABC News about this attack and the response from said authoritarians was interesting and depressing at the same time. The general gist – it’s outrageous for this woman to be assaulted but it’s even more outrageous to protect yourself from said assault. Ain’t social engineering grand?
Flashback to just a month ago, when Victoria Police would not support a motion by Shooters, Farmers and Fishers MP Jeff Bourman (an ex Victoria Policeman) to allow non-lethal items such as pepper spray for self-defence because “criminals might get them.” Then, just two days later a Victoria Police officer was stabbed in the face in a home invasion and was unable to defend himself. Because as well all know, the second he takes that uniform off, he is completely untrustworthy to use the self-defence tools he wears on the job daily, at home.
Pepper spray is exactly what this poor woman could’ve used to at least buy some time and get away.
As we and Devine have both mentioned, Victoria Police is suffering from death by political correctness. Another recent example – Vic Pol instructed their officers not to shoot at cars that were attempting to ram them. The result? A record number of Police vehicles rammed which is not really surprising given the ‘no pursuit’ policy insanity.
Then there’s this:
To be fair, it’s not just Victoria Police who are doing this. North of the border, there’s this attitude from NSW Police:
SMH.
Furthermore, Victoria Police have been found dropping these into letterboxes:
That’s right, it’s your fault for leaving your keys on your table inside your locked house – not the offender for making a conscious effort to break into your property unlawfully and do god knows what. Victim blaming par excellence.
The blame for all this is surely on the heads of Graham Ashton, Andrews, Neville, the Ambulance Chaser Brigade and the ongoing practical joke known as the Australian judicial system. But it’s also largely on the public for their emotionally immature and downright irrational attitudes to the topic of self-defence. It’s usually a mixture of “violent crime isn’t happening to me so it’s not happening to anyone else”, “I choose to be a victim so therefore you must be too” and that tried and tested Australian maxim of “I’m outraged, now what is someone else going to do about this for me?”
It’s not just the public who suffer though – front line Police cop it the hardest at the expense of their politically correct “superiors” on the Commission.
If driving a truck into a crowd full of people in Berlin hasn’t got the message across that we are no safer now than before 1996 then I’m sure blowing up a crowded petrol station in Melbourne would. Or we could just, you know, ban petrol stations. (Hey, they’re already considering banning unleaded petrol)
But thank goodness we restricted a 7 shot Adler shotgun!
As we called back in September – if more of this continues to happen, good people will start taking the law into their own hands – it has started. As far as we’re concerned the message from the government and Police is not one of competence or care. That message is re-enforced by Parliament House receiving security upgrades but the thought of the public protecting themselves is in essence, illegal. And well, with Victoria Police being promised over 2000 more officers, as we pointed out in October, it’s too little, too late and in the grand scheme of things a drop in the ocean. Except if it’s traffic duty, then you’ll notice.
This tradie, however – a late nomination for Australian of the year.
