Another self defence win as Australian business owner not charged for slashing armed robber with machete

fouadmin August 19, 2017 News, Self Defence, Victoria, Victoria Police Leave a Comment

Bringing a knife to a gunfight. Literally.

An adult store owner in Melbourne has not been charged by Victoria Police after taking a machete to an illegal shotgun wielding armed robber.

The Herald Sun reports:

“A SHOTGUN-WIELDING robber was no match for the manager of a Boronia adult store who fought back and hit the man with a machete.

Police said the manager swung the machete and connected twice with the man’s head, before the injured man fled through the back door at Night Moods adult store on Boronia Rd about 7.20pm on Friday, August 4.

Knox detective Acting Senior Sergeant Adam McFarlane said the would-be robber entered through the rear entrance wielding a sawn-off shotgun. He said the man allegedly pointed the gun at the manager and demanded drugs.

The manager pulled out a machete and struck twice, leaving the man with serious head injuries.”

A brief look at the offender’s charge sheet reads pretty standard and surprise surprise, he was out on bail.

From the report, it is unclear if Victoria Police made the call because it was self-defence or because they could not prove he had the machete purely for self-defence. A fair assumption to make, as that is really not the kind of item you would associate with that kind of business. Or maybe it is, if that’s what floats your boat.

Either way, kudos to the man for protecting himself and his business.

This is a marked difference from past statements from Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Steve Fontana, who previously told people to “just be compliant” during a home invasion. This has recently been echoed by Acting Commander Tony Silva who just on Wednesday advised the increasing number of elderly violent crime victims to use “ATMs inside shopping centres, and not withdrawing an entire pension at once, would help reduce the risk of attack.”

Now compare that to how American elderly can deal with armed robbery and you get a different perspective. But no, we’re busy installing more CCTV cameras. That’ll teach those crooks.

It’s also surprising that the Alannah and Madeline Foundation sponsored propagandists at the Herald Sun would print said incident, then again, anything to get clickbait revenue up.

The question still remains though – if a machete is ok, then why not a firearm? And while we all know why the respective authoritarian state governments’ continue to refuse that access, public opinion is increasingly turning against them, particularly in Victoria in the midst of it’s ridiculous crime wave.

But remember folks, Melbourne is still the world’s “*most liveable city.”

Firearm Owners United

Firearm Owners United was founded in response to the many hysterical voices crying out for further gun control in this country. We already go through so many hoops to get our firearms as it is. We do not need more hoops. We don’t need a mother/father figure deciding what’s the best for us. We are Law Abiding Firearm Owners, and we are sick of being treated like second-class citizens.
