Take a bow, National Firearms Agreement:
“A family living on a property in rural Victoria that was robbed is offering a $10,000 reward for information that may help capture the daring thieves.
Robbers used a tractor connected to a chain to ram their way into a Carlisle River property last Friday while the owners were away and ripped a safe containing at least 15 high-powered guns and more than 20,000 rounds of ammunition from one of the building’s walls. It appears the offenders also planned the attack, ripping down the home’s CCTV cameras prior to the robbery.
The emotional owner of the property, who wanted to be identified only as Paul, told 9NEWS he doesn’t want to see the weapons fall into the wrong hands.
“I worked so hard and they just ripped my bloody house down (and) they think they’re gonna get away with it (sic),” he said. “It makes me sick… I haven’t slept for four days. I don’t want to see people use these things on police or hold ups.”
He also said that the thieves managed to get away with his priceless family heirlooms that were handed down to him by his great-grandfather and grandfather.
“I’ve lived here all my life. I’ve worked so hard for these things and they took them away from me,” he said. “They took things like my great-grandfather had, my grandfather had, like medals from the First World War. They took them, they took gold, they took coins.”
The group then returned to the property the following day and were confronted by Paul, who was unable to catch the thieves. “I thought he was gonna shoot me… so, I drove at him, wiped out my fence and he’s taken off (sic),” he said.
Paul and his family are now working with police to catch the offender and are offering anyone with information the monetary reward.”
So in case you missed that, they literally drove a tractor into a man’s house and then ripped the safe out of the wall with it.
What can you say? Another hard-working Australian having his livelihood and life turned upside down, unable to defend his property against crooks (when they returned for round 2) while they have a field day stealing firearms. On the basis of the report this is either a registry leak or someone in the man’s inner circle that knew where and when to be, either way it’s a moot point – the laws didn’t protect the victim and just empowered the criminal.
And where were the Police? Literally hours away. Anyone from the “call 000” crowd want to jump in here?
Also no sign of Sam Lee, whose laughable suggestion of tightening storage laws for firearms dealers this past week was instantly proven ineffective by this example – the gentleman even had CCTV which was easily bypassed by the crooks and any alarm in a rural area would require a response time of hours.
This is while Daniel Andrews and Victorian Labor virtue signal about more laws “getting guns off the streets.” Well, a whole lot more of them just went on the street thanks to your superfluous nonsense.
Australian gun control is a farce. They’ll all get bail too, that’s if they’re even caught.
We await the tractor bans that will surely be called for – it is Victoria.
The only sensible thing to do is for Victoria is to follow NSW’s and Tasmania’s example and create a specific offense of Firearm Theft that would carry substantially heavier penalties than most other stealing offenses. What is needed is penalties that deter, not more legislation to make life harder for legal gun owners who are trying to do the right thing.
